Autumn, Stiching and Gathering

Things have been busy the last few weeks, but as I drove past the neighborhood golf course this afternoon on my way home from grocery shopping, I noticed that more of the trees are starting to turn color. It takes awhile for that to happen here, so I'm always happy to see things progressing during my favorite season.

This second picture shows two other trees (and I have no idea what they are) that also change in the fall, but not in the traditional autumn colors. As you can see, the one has white, one has pink, and then the other has already lost most of its golden leaves.

I managed to finish my LHN Autumn Sampler last weekend. I changed the color of the pumpkin from the gold color, but left the title of the sampler in the gold. It's a bit darker in person than the way it looks in the picture. I loved this fabric when I found it at my favorite quilt shop, and I think it will be perfect to help make this sampler into a pillow. The colors are off in this photo. The colors "in real life" are more muted and brown. I also left off the stitched border.

This is my current work-in-progress ~ LHN Two White Houses. I'm having fun using some overdyed threads in this one (although it calls for DMC). The chart was one of my birthday gifts from my daughter back in August. Isn't that thread keeper pretty? That was one of my birthday gifts from my husband. They both ordered from Mary Kathryn at her e-shop, Handcrafts Online. As I stitched yesterday afternoon we were having some wind as a cool front came in, and it was perfect to sit and stitch an autumn design while seeing leaves blowing around the backyard :)

Finally, here's some fabric I recently added to my stash. I found the two charm packets at one quilt shop, and then saw the package of fat quarters at a different shop when I was buying some wool felt. I'm not sure exactly what I'll use them for, but know they'll work for a few different projects I have in mind.

Dear Joanne, At last I come and leave a friendly comment on your blog. It's such a peaceful and relaxing moment to read you, watch your photos and browse through your blog again. I love all what you write about Fall. Here we have to add fog at morning over the landscape (owing to the fact that we are settled along a very large river). Summer was summerized for me in the words "surgery" and "hospital". I had very serious heart surgery in the middle of July, then a second time three weeks later. After all this I spent more than 2 months in 4 various hospitals, because of many complications! Now I'm back home but with daily nursing care and I recover very slowly. My family was wonderful during all this time, and my church too. They helped a lot. For many weeks I couldn't use a computer at hospital. Now I'm very glad to be able to use it again, as I can cross stitch too, both activities being fitted very well with the quiet life I must have. Also I can care for my online cross stitch shop again and send the orders to customers (http://latelierdelacolombe.com)
I wish you very quiet and happy coming days. I'll visit you again soon. Hugs from France.

You are quite a busy lady! I love your sampler, it came out great! The fabric is beautiful as well. The leaves are changing quickly here and falling as quickly as they change. Winter will be here before we know what hit us! :)

Such marvelous stitching and so complete with the Autum colors. Where we live in California, we get very little Fall colors and I get very homesick at this time of year for my beloved Tennessee. Thanks for sharing!

How nice to be able to work on seasonal projects during our favorite time of year! I can imagine you sittig with your stitching looking out as those blowing leaves. The autumn sampler turned out just wonderful and will make such a pretty pillow with your fabric choosen. I will look forward to seeing it finished.

You quickly started a new project and it is really coming along nicely. The overdyed threads look so pretty in your acorn thread keeper! Reason enough to celebrate the season!

We are having the perfect autumn day here. It is cool and there is sunshine to show off the golden orange of our maple tree. I only wish I could invite you over to share a cup of spiced cider and chat!

Hugs ~
Heidi
