The Love of Books

"Book love, my friend, is your pass to the greatest, the purest, and the most perfect pleasure that God has prepared for His creatures. It lasts when all other pleasures fade. It will support you when all other recreations are gone. It will last until your death. It will make your hours pleasant to you as long as you live."

~ Anthony Trollope

Recently I've been in my "moody" period that seems to happen each Spring. I've tried so hard this year to enjoy it, but I'm having difficulty. As hard as it is for most people to understand, I love the cooler and colder weather... the autumn and the winter. So each spring, although I love the flowers, I seem to mourn for the seasons I love the most. It seems to happen much more here than other places we've lived, since flowers bloom in our area all year long. Fresh blossoms are not something that happens for just a season or two.

Between my "moodiness" and getting our home ready for our company next month, I haven't gotten too much stitching done. Hmmm... seems I've mentioned that a few times in posts and letters recently. BUT, I've been doing lots of reading. Therefore, you can now see the tie-in to the quote for today :)

The last month I read almost the entire series of the Monica Ferris needlework mysteries. There were two that our library doesn't have, so those have been added to my wishlist which I gave my daughter... a nice suggestion for Mother's Day... my husband is getting a note with the name of the new Jennifer Chiaverini book listed on it for his hint :)

Right now I'm reading something quite different, Labyrinth, by Kate Mosse. I first heard about this book from several ladies on a stitching list and I found it at the library. I became caught up in the story from the first page, and have been really enjoying it. I have several other books in my "to be read" pile, and will be getting to those soon. But for now, this one is really keeping my interest!!

Books certainly are a perfect pleasure... giving us a myriad of places to escape the day-to-day routine, if only for a short time...

The problem with reading is that I didn't manage yet to read and to sew or embroider at the same time! So I don't read any more as much as I did in the past. But I enjoy it al lot when I find the time to read. I wish you a blessed week end.

Reading can bring comfort and escape as you said. I am sorry you are not enjoying spring a bit more. I am doing better this year as I refuse to think that summer is coming. That will be my downfall. I am in the middle of my wisteria coming into bloom and really celebrating that without spring, I cannot see or smell these amazing blossoms. Soon you and I will be pulling out autumn and Christmas items to work on for good cheer! :-)
