The Warmth of Candles

I love candles ~ especially this time of year. They bring such comfort to a home, and I enjoy all the seasonal aromas... especially the spicy scents! Here are a few ideas for using candles in your home:

~ Use scooped out apples, oranges or cored pineapples to make unique candle holders.
~ To fit candles easily into candlesticks, dip the ends into boiling water.
~ To burn candles slowly, place them in the freezer for an hour or two before using.
~ Prevent "guttering" in the candle by rubbing a little salt around the wick before lighting.
~ For a pretty setting, take several votive candles and cluster them together in a dish of water with different colored marbles in the bottom to reflect light. Or, arrange several different candles on a mirror for a similar effect.
~ Save old kitchen utensils to use for candle holders. Old tin graters look so pretty with light reflected from them... old muffin tins can hold votives... an old small pot-pie plate makes a great holder for a pillar candle... glass custard cups would look nice as individual place settings with a votive in each.

A very happy November to you dear Joanne! The final month of autumn has arrived. As the leaves fall, your post about 'The Warmth of Candles' is very appropriate. I will think of you as I light my candles this evening.
