The Enchantment of November

"The enchantment of a November evening has in it the feeling of pumpkins and squash in glowing heaps,
of crops harvested, woodpiles trim, cedar boughs piled around drafty house sills.
The fields are beautiful as they give themselves over to night.
All the tawny shades, the coppery tones, the ambers and rusts are incredibly lovely.
You can see these colors now that lush summer and lavish autumn are flowing to winter.
The delicate shades of color emerge until every dead weak stalk is a different tone."

~ Gladys Taber, "The Book of Stillmeadow" (1948)
